The inspiration behind the bizarre album
A famous nude image of John Lennon and Yoko Ono that adorned their album cover is to be made into an advert for vodka. The photograph, from the couple's album, Unfinished No 1: Two Virgins, has been bought by Swedish vodka firm Absolut to be used in an American advertising campaign. The picture is the rear cover of the album and shows a naked John and Yoko from behind, with the space in between them altered to represent the shape of an Absolut bottle. It is the first time a Beatles picture has been used to promote alcohol. However, George Harrison is the only member of the band not to have appeared in adverts of any kind. The agency said it had used the back cover of the album in the interest of good taste, because the other side featured full-frontal nudity. Lennon's image has been used in a number of advertisements after his death, with both One2One and British Airways using lookalikes in television commercials, while he and Yoko featured in a campaign for Hilton Hotels. Unfinished Music No. It was the result of an all-night session of musical experimentation with Yoko in John's home studio at Kenwood , while his wife, Cynthia Lennon , was on holiday in Greece. In an attempt to avoid controversy, the LP record was sold in a brown paper bag, and distributed by Track and Tetragrammaton in the United Kingdom and the United States respectively.
